Horse

22/05/2010

The Horses in the RPG are widespread and populous, introduced to multiple continents by the Lions’ colonization efforts. Many of them live under Lion rule, while others form their own communities. And most are areligious or participate in the Lions’ church, but some keep their old traditions alive … the most notable perhaps being the cult of Necrous, the Death Horse.

  • Medium-size humanoid; base speed 30 ft.
  • +2 on Listen and Swim checks.

Weasel

20/05/2010

Weasels have a nomadic lifestyle and tribal social structure, with a number of unique customs influenced by the worship of Yara, their Chaotic Good deity. Domino’s tribe was recently overrun by the Lions.

Weasel Names

Weasels are deeply superstitious regarding names. They believe that names hold immense power, and by knowing a person’s name you can invoke fell magic to curse them. More specifically, agents of a dark god they formerly worshipped and will now refer to only as That One will hunt down the person whose true name is known and do unspeakably awful things to them. As such, they are usually given a public name, something mundane and often based on their appearance or personality traits, and later choose a “spiritual name” for themselves, which for all intents and purposes is their true name. This spiritual name is only given to those the Weasel has absolute trust in.

Given their beliefs, Weasels also do not consider it important to introduce themselves by giving their public name, especially if they’re travelers. Instead, they introduce themselves by giving a goal. Only after they feel they can trust someone will they tell their public name, and it will be many years before they feel safe giving their soul’s name.

Public names include Rindle, Pine Needles, Harlequin, Dust, and Scree. Secret names are difficult to discover, since most of them are in the archaic and hard-to-learn Weasel language and few Weasels will willingly give theirs away to someone who’d readily speak it.

Weasel Stats

  • -2 Strength, +2 Dexterity
  • Medium-size humanoid; base speed 30 ft.
  • +2 on Balance and Climb checks. Weasels use their Dexterity modifier instead of their Strength modifier for Climb checks.
  • Bonus feat: Weapon Finesse.
  • Low-Light Vision (Ex): Weasels can see twice as far as humans can in conditions of poor illumination.
  • Untrustworthy: Weasels’ body language tends to give people the sense that they’re hiding something, or not being entirely forthright. NPCs’ reactions to weasels are typically one step lower on the scale used for the Diplomacy skill.
  • Weapon Familiarity: Weasels treat Sheng Biao as martial rather than exotic weapons.
  • Automatic Languages: Common or Lion, Weasel.
  • Favored Class: Rogue.

Sheng Biao

20/05/2010

This exotic weapon looks like a long rope with a knife tied to one end. It is commonly used by Weasels, and is sometimes called a rope dart.

  • Cost 15 gp.
  • Damage 1d3 (Small), 1d4 (Medium) slashing.
  • Weight 3 lbs.
  • Special Sheng biao can be used against opponents within 15 feet, although the wielder can not make Attacks of Opportunity with it. Using a sheng biao provokes an Attack of Opportunity.

Sheng biao can be used to make trip and disarm attacks (you can drop the sheng biao to keep from being tripped in return). The wielder of a sheng biao gets +2 on Bluff checks to feint in combat.

    Sheng biao can be finessed.

Weapon Expertise

20/05/2010

You can deal significant damage using a light weapon, by targeting weak spots precisely.

Prerequisites Base Attack Bonus +1, Weapon Finesse.

Benefits You add your Dexterity modifier to your damage rolls with light or finessable weapons, instead of your Strength modifier.

Special A Fighter may take Weapon Expertise as one of her Fighter bonus feats.

Clockwork Limb

20/05/2010

One of your limbs has been replaced with a magically-powered clockwork prosthetic. This gives you certain advantages, but has the side effect of making it harder to cast arcane spells, and harder for healing magic to affect you. And while it won’t short out if it touches water, swimming with a clockwork limb is like rowing with a boat anchor.

Prerequisites None, although you lose your natural limb.

Benefits For clockwork arms — A replacement arm grants you +2 STR, and a slam attack which does 1d4 damage. These bonuses stack.

For clockwork legs — A replacement leg grants you +2 STR for the purposes of lifting objects or breaking down doors, and a +2 bonus to resist bull rush, overrun, or trip attacks. These bonuses stack. If you have two clockwork legs, your base land speed is improved by 10 feet.

Drawbacks For each clockwork limb you take, you take the following penalties:

  • A -1 armor check penalty on movement-based skills, which stacks with any armor you wear. This penalty is doubled for Swim checks.
  • A -1 penalty on Disguise checks.
  • A 5% arcane spell failure chance.

In addition, for every two clockwork limbs you have, Cure spells which target you heal -1 HP (minimum 1).

Domino

19/05/2010

Domino was not the most popular weasel in his tribe. They all thought he talked funny and was too shy. Of course, now they’ve all been conquered by lions, and he’s … what is he doing, anyway?

Fursona Stats

SkillsAcrobatics 2, Deceive 3, Dodge 3, Melee Combat 3, Observe 2, Persuade 2, Stealth 3, Riding 3

Unique SkillDomino’s Riding skill is used to control his mount during combat, and to perform combined attacks.

GearDomino has a cloak, his sheng biao, a rune-carved call whistle he uses to summon his mount, a pouch with human money in it, and a prayer book that he stole from Richard.

Magic Item The Spider Gloves.

Conviction 4Domino regains Conviction whenever he sees dramatic evidence that what he believes in is true.

Backstories and Powers

Aura of Resolve 3Domino’s conviction in his beliefs is so strong that he cannot be dissuaded from them by supernatural means. All attempts at magical or preternatural control over him automatically fail. This conviction can spread to his allies, letting them trigger it as a backstory to help them to resist control attempts, or it can be invoked to help him resist non-supernatural attempts to sway him from his beliefs.

Favored by Fortune 2Some Weasels have all the luck. Those that do usually have Yara on their side. And if Yara is particularly kind, xe might tip the scales a bit in Domino’s favor once in a while.

Inferiority Complex -3Growing up, Domino was not appreciated among the other members of his tribe. And after receiving his calling as a Knight, he’s become obsessed with proving his worth to Yara and his former tribesmates (whenever he runs into them again).

Knight’s Code -2As a Knight of Yara, Domino follows his moral compass regardless of whether or not it’s practical or in his best interests to do so.

Loyal Steed 3Ever since his calling as a Knight of Yara, Domino has been accompanied by Bouda, a hyenadon from the Four Territories (e.g. Chaotic Good heaven.) By spending a token, he can summon her to fight alongside him.

Smite Evil 2While any true Knight works tirelessly for their goals, a true Knight is also particuarly motivated to show up anyone who’s consistently offended their moral codes.
